About My Work
Artist Statement
Welcome! I’m Samara, a second-generation artist, born to Mexican and Honduran parents, and raised in Texas. Growing up in a household with such rich cultural backgrounds, I’ve always been navigating the complexities of identity and self-expression. Living in Texas my whole life, I’ve had to figure out how to present myself in a way that feels true to my heritage while also carving out my own path. My work is a reflection of this ongoing journey—one that explores the layers of womanhood, cultural identity, and the personal narratives that shape who I am.
I use ceramics as a medium to express these themes, working with hand building, slip casting, and plaster mold making. I enjoy the spontaneity and experimentation that come with the process, allowing the material to speak to me and guide the direction of each piece. My work bridges the gap between function and artistic expression, creating pieces that are both meaningful and usable.
Through my art, I want to invite others to connect with these stories and experiences, especially those who, like me, have navigated the complexities of cultural identity and personal growth. Each piece is a reflection of my journey, and I hope it sparks conversation and connection for others on a similar path.
